The Solway Coast AONB boasts a diverse range of landscapes, including rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, salt marshes, estuaries, and coastal grasslands. The area’s natural beauty is a result of its unique geology and rich biodiversity.
It’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and truly relax. And the best part is, when you own your own caravan at North Lakes Country Park, this stunning coastline is just down the road!
Seaside towns
Along the coastline, you’ll also find the quaint Victorian seaside town of Silloth, which is full to the brim with everything you would expect from a quintessential British seaside holiday.
There are long stretches of sandy beaches, museums to explore, the Solway Coast Discovery Centre, and a huge variety of annual events. Plus, Silloth even has its own mini water park!

History and heritage
It’s not just about the stunning coastline and the rugged beauty of the lakes, though. There’s also plenty of history in the surrounding area too.
Bowness on Solway marks the western terminus of Hadrian’s Wall, an ancient Roman defensive fortification that stretches across northern England from the banks of the River Tyne in the east.
All this is literally on our doorstep, which is why owning a static caravan or lodge in the Northern Lake District is the perfect location.
Wildlife
The Lake District is also a haven for wildlife lovers too, thanks to the wide range of birds, wildlife, and nature in the area.
Renowned for its rich wildlife habitats, birdwatchers flock to the area to spot a variety of bird species, including Eiders, Oystercatchers, Curlews and migratory birds such as Brent Geese and Wigeons where the estuaries and salt marshes provide important feeding grounds for these birds.
The Nature Reserves of Mawbray Banks, Wedholme Flow, Watchtree, Crosscanonby, and RSPB Campfield Marshowness Common are also havens to an abundance of wildlife. Seals can often be seen basking on sandbanks, and occasionally dolphins and porpoises can even be spotted offshore too.
In addition to all this, here at North Lakes Country Park, our very own natural tarn is a magnet for migrating and resident waterfowl, and our static caravan and holiday lodge owners enjoy having the wildlife close by. It’s truly a sight to behold to watch the geese fly in at dusk and then take off at dawn!
